Disney Costumes for Adults

The Pinocchio costume is based, of course, on the Disney film, which is in turn based on an Italian tale.  Before buying a Pinocchio costume, here's a little about the story.

First, did you know that the Disney film, released in 1940, was deemed "culturally significant" and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry?  Yep, it's true!  Kinda neat for an animated film, don't you think?

Pinochio is based on the Italian tale called The Adventures of Pinocchio.  It's about a poor wood carver named Geppetyo who builds a puppet and names him Pinocchio.  Childless, one night he sees a falling star and wishes upon it, that Pinocchio could be alive.

The Blue Fairy hears Geppetto's wish and brings Pinocchio to life and tells him that he can become a real boy if he proves himself "brave, truthful, and unselfish".

Pinocchio really wants to be a real boy, but alas, he encounters a host of rather unsavory characters.  He has a guardian of sorts in Jiminy Cricket, who tries to warn him off his adventures.  Eventually, Pinocchio ends up on Pleasure Island, where he gets into all kinds of mischief.  But there's a curse that transforms boys who misbehave into donkeys!

Well, there's more to the story, but eventually Pinocchio mends his ways and the Blue Fairy turns him into a little boy.  Happy ending!
