Jasmine was the female lead in the 1992 Disney movie Aladdin, and she is Aladdin's love interest. In the move, she's the daughter of a Sultan. Jasmine is just about to turn 16, and by decree, has to choose a husband on her 16th birthday.
The problem: Jasmine wants to marry for love, and she doesn't find it among her royal suitors. One day she goes to the marketplace, and comes across Aladdin, who at the time was a street thief.
Naturally, Jasmine falls in love with Aladdin, but her father is very much against the match. However, once Aladdin saves the Sultan and the kingdom, he and the lovely Jasmine are allowed to marry.
